Toddler and boys have gone to meet their maker after Bronx blaze

A baby and two little boys have died after a fire broke out in a Bronx apartment building a few blocks from New York's Yankee Stadium.

Elijah Artis, five, Jeremiah Artis, two, and four-month-old Michael Turner were pronounced dead at hospital.

Police said a 25-year-old woman, four-year-old girl and four-month-old girl were treated for smoke inhalation and were in a stable condition.

Fire brigade chiefs said the blaze started in a second-floor apartment of the six-storey building. The Daily News reported witnesses seeing the children's mother leap from a window with a child in her arms.

The building's owner could not be reached for comment.

The building is about 10 streets from the site of a 2007 fire that killed 10 people, including eight children.
