Woman Charged For Stealing $2.87 from Public Fountain

Deidre Romine, an unemployed woman leaving in Ohio is facing petty theft charges after being caught taking change from a fountain in order to buy a meal.

Romine took $2.87 in coins from a fountain outside the Logan County Courthouse in Bellefontaine, Ohio on Oct. 7. Her husband died last year, and she has had trouble finding work.

Romie told WBNS-TV, "I'm trying to feed myself and I've got four cats that I'm raising.

A police report states that after seeing her taking the pennies, an officer detained Romaine and found the change in her pocket. She was charged with petty theft and ordered to appear in court. The city is listed as the victim in this case.

Yet, there is a silver lining to this story.

Local resident Will Zell heard of Romine's plight and decided to open up an online donation drive to help cover her expenses.

To date, his campaign has raised more than $9,000.

Plenty of support is pouring in for Romine, and not just financially.

My View

This story is weird because top officials, government, businessmen and robber …… steal money all the time and they don't get arrested or sent to prison. Of course their stealing, in their eyes, is fine and they don't see anything wrong with it. This poor woman gets arrested for taking pennies out of a fountain in order to eat. I'm glad that people are helping her and her cats. I don't know why the police officer couldn't have given her money to buy a meal and I wonder how much money they would have spent on this case. Times I just wonder what the heck - are some of us so hard-hearted or unkind natured that we figure she could be arrested and yet left her to be persecuted.  Please help, people are suffering.

As a Business Management student studied business for five years, I learnt that income inequality makes people poor. When it make people poor, poor people get hungry and when they are hungry they can get desperate and when desperate people commit crime.
Why is this business statement far, far, away from our leader's ability to comprehend?

I don’t know only God Knows.
